Twenty-two departures each way on a weekday, four on a Sunday: that is the shape of the Pine Harbour ferry, the outer-harbour commuter run SeaLink sails for Auckland Transport between the marina at Beachlands and Pier 3 in the city. Weekday crossings take 35 minutes, weekend ones 45, and an adult tapping AT HOP or a bank card is charged $13.80.
Auckland Transport's schedule data for 30 September 2026 to 24 January 2027; school-holiday changes are announced separately by SeaLink; checked 9 October 2026 Auckland Transport – Pine Harbour ferry timetable · 2026-10-09
Forty-four sailings on an ordinary weekday, 22 in each direction, put the Pine Harbour ferry among Auckland's busier commuter boats. From Pine Harbour the first leaves at 06:20 and boats go every 20 minutes until 08:40; from the city they run every 20 minutes between 16:00 and 18:00. The last weekday departure from Pier 3 is 19:40, and on Fridays two late boats at 21:10 and 23:10 bring people home after an evening in town.
The weekend is a different service. Saturday has six departures each way and Sunday four, the first leaving Pine Harbour at 10:25, and the timetable allows 45 minutes instead of 35. Those weekend boats exist because of a 2022 experiment: AT trialled them for six weeks from 19 March to 25 April 2022 and made them permanent from 28 January 2023, after passenger numbers grew every weekend of the trial.
SeaLink runs the route under contract to AT. The company bought the Pine Harbour ferry business in 2014, and its fleet of Clipper catamarans works this route seven days a week.
Pine Harbour is in AT's outer-harbour band, the dearest of the three distance bands for its commuter ferries and shared only with Gulf Harbour. Fares cover one trip in either direction, and paying by card is markedly cheaper than cash. The usual daily and seven-day caps do not apply to this route, so heavy users are steered towards the Outer Harbour monthly pass, which throws in local buses and trains at both ends.
A registered child's AT HOP card (ages 5 to 15) costs nothing on a Saturday, a Sunday or a public holiday. Toddlers under five go free all week with someone paying, and SuperGold seniors are not charged from 9am on weekdays or at all on weekends. SeaLink adds a temporary fuel surcharge to its own Waiheke and Great Barrier bookings, but for Pine Harbour it points passengers to AT's fares. Luggage beyond cabin bags may be charged.

From the marina the Clippers head west to the Downtown Ferry Terminal with no stops in between, landing at Pier 3 at the foot of the city centre. East Auckland has a second AT commuter boat: the Half Moon Bay ferry starts from a terminal further west along the same coast and arrives at a different city berth, Pier 5, so the two timetables are not interchangeable.
Pine Harbour boats berth at Pier 3, two minutes' walk from Britomart station by SeaLink's estimate. There is no SeaLink ticket office in the city: tag on with AT HOP or a bank card, or buy a paper ticket from the AT machines just inside the terminal. Grab a coffee across the road before you board, because the Clipper catamarans have no café.
The terminal is inside Pine Harbour Marina on the Pōhutukawa Coast, serving Beachlands, Maraetai and Whitford. AT counts 174 park-and-ride spaces at the marina and SeaLink describes the parking as free and watched round the clock. Buses 738 and 739 run on to Beachlands and Maraetai The marina itself has places to eat and a fresh market on Saturday mornings.
Paying by AT HOP or a bank card costs much less than cash; tag on at Pier 3 or the marina and off at the other end with that same card.
SeaLink runs a three-boat timetable in school holidays, dropping some peak sailings and adding mid-morning and mid-afternoon ones. Its notice for 26 September to 11 October cut the 07:20, 08:40 and 16:20 from Pine Harbour.
The fast Clippers carry 48 to 98 passengers and have no café or bar on board.
Bicycles travel on the open rear deck for the length of the crossing.
The marina car park is free for ferry users, with 174 spaces counted by AT and round-the-clock security according to SeaLink.
AT's timetable pages do not show cancellations; the AT Mobile app and AT's ferry status page do.
Why does this page give AT's times rather than SeaLink's? Because SeaLink itself sends Pine Harbour passengers to AT's timetable. Its own pages cover changes only, such as school-holiday alterations and one-off extras: for the All Blacks test on Saturday 10 October it added a 16:15 from Pine Harbour and a 21:30 back from the city. We read AT's timetable page for Pine Harbour departures on 9 October and found it matched AT's published schedule data, apart from the two holiday extras.
SeaLink is better known for its vehicle ferries, and the Waiheke car ferry from Half Moon Bay is a separate, booked service with its own fares. Closer to the city, the Bayswater ferry is another AT commuter route, priced in the cheaper inner-harbour band and running on weekdays only.
35 minutes on weekdays and on the late Friday and Saturday boats; 45 minutes on the daytime weekend timetable.
Monday to Friday, the 06:20 from Pine Harbour opens the day. The final weekday sailing from Pier 3 is the 19:40, or the 23:10 on a Friday.
