Devonport sits at the tip of a short peninsula on the North Shore, directly across the Waitematā Harbour from Auckland's city centre, and Fullers360 runs the boat for Auckland Transport. The crossing takes 12 minutes, weekday sailings from Downtown begin at 05:45, and on Friday and Saturday nights the last one heads back from Devonport at 00:30. (This is Auckland's Devonport, not the Tasmanian port of the same name.)
Auckland Transport timetable from 30 September 2026 to 24 January 2027, the same on the AT website and in AT's schedule data; nothing published yet for later dates; checked 9 October 2026 Auckland Transport – Devonport ferry timetable · 2026-10-09
Few ferry trips in Tāmaki Makaurau are as short as this one: from the Downtown Ferry Terminal on the city waterfront to the wharf at the foot of Victoria Road takes 12 minutes in either direction. Auckland Transport contracts Fullers360 to sail it seven days a week, from 05:45 on weekdays, 06:15 on Saturdays and 07:15 on Sundays.
Monday to Thursday brings 44 departures each way, with a boat roughly every 20 minutes while commuters are travelling and every half hour in between. Fridays add a 00:00 from the city and a 00:30 back; Saturdays run half-hourly with the same late pair. Sundays and public holidays start later and finish with the 22:15 from Devonport.
AT's website and its schedule data list the same times for every date from 30 September 2026 to 24 January 2027. Nothing marked as a summer timetable has appeared for this wharf, so the October pattern is the one that carries on into January.
Devonport is in AT's inner-harbour band, and every fare below is for one trip in one direction between the wharf and the city. Tag on and off with AT HOP, or tap a contactless Visa, Mastercard, American Express, UnionPay card or a phone wallet; without either you need a paper ticket before boarding, and cash prices sit well above card prices.
Because the boat runs every day, two AT rules matter more here than on a weekday-only route. On weekend days and holidays children from 5 to 15 ride without paying if their HOP card is registered, and seniors whose card carries the SuperGold concession pay nothing once 9am has passed on a weekday and nothing at all on weekend days or holidays. Under-fives go free with a paying passenger.
| Adult, AT HOP or contactless | $ 7.80 |
| Child 5–15 on AT HOP (weekdays) | $ 4.69 |
| Secondary or tertiary student, AT HOP | $ 4.69 |
| Accessible concession, AT HOP | $ 4.69 |
| Community Connect, AT HOP | $ 3.90 |
| Adult | $ 12 |
| Tertiary student or Community Connect | $ 12 |
| Child 5–15, secondary student or accessible | $ 7 |
| Most you pay in 7 days on AT HOP | $ 50 |
| Most you pay in a day by contactless | $ 20 |

The boat crosses the Waitematā Harbour from the downtown piers off Quay Street to the wharf at the end of Victoria Road, with no stops in between. Within AT's network it shares a fare band with the Bayswater commuter boat, which uses a different North Shore wharf and does not sail at weekends. AT's schedule data also shows some Fullers360 sailings to Rangitoto and to Waiheke calling at Devonport on the way out and back; those are separate services with their own tickets, and the inner-harbour fare does not cover them.
AT's journey planner simply shows the city end as Ferry Terminal - Downtown, stop 96001. Its schedule data puts the Devonport boat at Pier 4 until 30 October 2026 and at Pier 2 from Saturday 31 October, so read the departure screens rather than heading for a pier out of habit. The AT Customer Service Centre on Pier 1 sells AT HOP cards and single paper tickets, and ticket machines in the terminal do too.
The terminal is the large building at the bottom of Victoria Road. Fullers360 has closed its ticket office here, though AT and Fullers staff are still on the wharf; an AT HOP machine near the toilets sells tickets and tops up cards. The wharf car park has 98 spaces at $1 an hour from 8am to 6pm every day, free outside those hours and on public holidays. Buses 806, 807 and 814 link the wharf with Stanley Point, Cheltenham and Akoranga Station.
Tag on when you board and off when you leave, with the same AT HOP card or the same phone or bank card, taken out of its wallet so the reader picks the right one. A cash adult ticket costs $12 against $7.80 by card.
AT is rebuilding Piers 1 and 2 at Devonport and refurbishing the waiting room, a $31 million job over three years starting in December 2026. Pier 2 and the waiting area close while the work is on; ferries keep using Pier 1.
From Monday to Thursday the last boat leaves Devonport at 23:45. Only on Friday and Saturday nights is there a 00:30, and on Sundays the 22:15 is the last.
AT warns that the wharf car park fills during the week. Buses 806, 807 and 814 from Cheltenham, Stanley Point and Akoranga Station are the alternative.
Delays and cancellations never show up in the printed times. On the day you travel, look up the ferry status page on AT's website or open the AT Mobile app.
Why does the wharf matter more than usual this summer? On 7 August 2026 AT announced a $31 million renewal of the Devonport Ferry Wharf and Terminal, replacing the end-of-life berths at Pier 1 and Pier 2 and refurbishing the waiting room. Construction is due to start in December 2026; while it is under way Pier 2 and the waiting area close, and all passenger ferries use Pier 1. AT says the berths are being built for the two new electric hybrid fast ferries it expects on this route.
Can you start an island trip from Devonport instead of the city? Sometimes. A few of Fullers360's Rangitoto Island ferry sailings and some boats on the Waiheke Island ferry call at Devonport, but payment rules differ: for Rangitoto, AT rules out the HOP card altogether, while the Fullers360 Waiheke service takes AT HOP but not contactless, even from Devonport. Check the times on those services before relying on a pick-up here.
Twelve minutes each way on every sailing, with no stops in between.
Devonport on Auckland's North Shore, reached from the Downtown Ferry Terminal. The Tasmanian town of the same name is a different crossing altogether.
On Monday to Thursday it is the 23:45. Friday and Saturday nights end with the 00:30, just after midnight, and Sundays and public holidays with the 22:15.
Yes. Contactless cards and phone wallets are accepted on the Devonport boat and are charged the same $7.80 adult fare as AT HOP, capped at $20 a day.
Not if they are 5 to 15 and their AT HOP card is registered: then the Devonport boat costs them nothing on weekend days and holidays. On weekdays they pay $4.69 on AT HOP or $7 cash.
Yes, 98 spaces at $1 an hour between 8am and 6pm, free in the evening, overnight and on public holidays. AT says it can be hard to find a space on weekdays.
On 25 December, and again on the Monday after it, 28 December, the boats follow Sunday times. Boxing Day keeps the Saturday timetable and New Year's Day the Friday one, late boats included.
