Advertising is the one part of the site that uses cookies. Google AdSense places them to show ads, count how often they are seen and, if your settings allow it, choose ads that suit your interests. Google's own ad settings page lets you turn personalisation off, and most browsers can refuse third-party cookies altogether. We do not currently run a separate analytics tool; if we add one it will be a cookie-free visit counter that we host ourselves (Umami), which only produces totals.
Serving a page also leaves a short trace in the logs of our web host and of Cloudflare, which sits in front of it: the requesting IP address, the browser, the time and the address visited. Those records exist to keep the site up and fend off abuse. Nobody uses them to market anything, and they are cleared once that job is done.
We handle personal information in line with New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 and, because the site is run from Spain, the EU General Data Protection Regulation. You may ask to see personal information we hold about you and ask for it to be corrected by writing to [email protected]; we will reply within 20 working days. Google and Cloudflare may process information overseas.
